The Juvenile Justice Board has today declared the youngest accused of the recent bus gang rape, who reportedly was also the most brutal to be a juvenile as he is less than eighteen years of age. The said accused now can be given a maximum of three years in a correction home. Many are outraged at this development and feel the law should be changed. What do you think

    A larger debate between the police, the ngos, the judiciary and the general public is required before rushing to change the law

    Particularly since the present laws seem to be very mild when dealing with juveniles who have committed offences

    No need to change the laws. Only courts need to interpret them suitably and make exceptions wherever required, like they often do

    These days children mature at a much younger age. The age should be reduced to sixteen

    Keep age as 18 years with a proviso that behavior and not biological age alone will determine whether an accused is a Juvenile

    Maturity levels have increased in both sexes and law should consider murders,rapes and other crimes by person as adults and not juvenile anymore

    Yes, from the eraly age , children are getting surrounding knwoledge with help of parents, relatived, friends and teacher, so at age of 16 ys.

    Person is mature enough by 16, if one can indulge in hinious crime like rape than he is mature enought for sentance.

    It should be based on psycho-physical age, after all we can’t hang a mentally retarded person or forgive a cold blooded murderer and rapist due to age

    Some day if a 14 year old commits crime, we cant bring down again age of juvenile from 16 to 14. Parents have to educate their children on morals.

    It should reduced further and examine the understanding of a person irrespective of age and if crime is heinous the punishment should be too harsh.

    I felt age is not bar for being juvenile or not, as if person is adult enough to do any crime then it should be punished whether of 15 or 16.
